A recent SEC filing allows us to infer a previously unreported domain name transaction price for the TradeZero.com domain name.
According to page F-56 of the filing,
Intangible assets consist of an acquired domain name and a trademark which are classified as indefinite-lived intangible assets and were acquired during 2021.
Pages F-62 and F-83 of the same filing lists the $540,000 purchase price of the domain name, and confirms the timing in 2021 (as there is $0 allocated to the “Domain name” intangible at December 31, 2020).
Page 110 of the filing notes the company’s main domain names,
We have registered domain names that we use in, or are related to, our business, most importantly www.tradezero.co, www.tradezero.us, and www.tradezero.com.
Using the WHOIS history at DomainTools.com, one can confirm that the TradeZero.com domain name (the most valuable of the above domains) changed hands in the October/November period of 2021. The other two domains did not show evidence of any ownership changes during 2021.
Thus, I believe it’s safe to conclude that the TradeZero.com domain name was acquired for USD $540,000 in 2021.
